Dream Symbol:

Wind

Carl Jung's Interpretation:

According to Carl Jung, the wind in dreams can often represent the phenomenon he refers to as 'pneuma', symbolizing the vital breath of life and spirit. It often represents complex transitions and shifts in the mind. It is seen as an animation of our spiritual selves, representing deep, unconscious thoughts, raw energies, and the exchange of energy between the conscious and unconscious mind. Considering Jung's theory of a collective unconsciousness, wind could also signify collective thoughts, perhaps marking societal trends or unconscious agreements in societal beliefs.

James Hillman's Interpretation:

From the James Hillman perspective, 'wind', as he acutely observed, is more than just a literal or psychological reference. He would view the symbol as a personification of the animated world; the 'wind' is an individualized aspect of the wider cosmic order. Hillman would steer away from reducing 'wind' down to just a personal unconscious quality, and instead promote a nuanced vision of the wind as an archetypal reality; influencing us, dialoguing with us and shaping our perceptions about ourselves and our surroundings.

Classical Interpretation:

Classically, wind is often associated with change, transition, and unseen forces. It symbolizes movement and freedom, a manifestation of unchained energy, and also stands for communication as wind carries voices, melodies, and words from one place to another.

Ancient Greek Interpretation:

In Greek mythology, each of the four wind gods, or Anemoi, represented a cardinal direction and had individual characteristics. Simply put, wind represented divine intervention and control over nature’s elements. It was a harbinger of seasonal change and was often associated with prophecy and messages from the divine.

Morphology:

Wind is intangible, volatile and yet can be immensely powerful. It's formless yet capable of creating waves, dispersing seeds, eroding rocks. It's silent, yet, when interacting with other objects, produces sound. It's invisible, yet its effects are deeply visible.
